I Remember When Rock Was Young, Me and Fifi Had So Much Fun

Top 5: Songs That Remind Me Of Reading Festival

I have had a bit of a moan in the past about Reading Festival and how much it hates me, but there have also been really good times - these are the five songs that remind me of those times. Also, to save repetition later, my friend known as The Music Guru was with me when all these events happened. And most likely The Welsh Boy too.

5. Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl?
Running into the tent and dancing like a loon while leaving the bags with someone else. Good times.

4. Cobra Starship - Snakes On A Plane
In a street teaming effort, we had to deposit some rubber snakes around the site in promotion of the single. I am not convinced we had much of an impact in the sales of the single, but we did leave a rubber snake on a condiments table and then ran away.

3. Dizzee Rascal - Fix Up, Look Sharp
As referenced before in a post on mosh-pit style experiences, this was one hell of a dance party! Which may have happened on two occasions, or I could be remembering it incorrectly.

2. Feeder - Buck Rogers
This is gonna sound like a random memory, but this song reminds me of needing to go the lovely toilet facilities during the Feeder set, dancing in the seemingly endless queue and then taking what felt like forever trying to find where I started in the first place.

1. Taking Back Sunday - Error:Operator.
We met TBS at the signing tent and one of them said they liked my T with a teddy on it. I have chosen to believe this was sincere and repeat this fact on a regular basis. I also love that we always get really excited about this song and no-one else does.

2. Rolling In The Deep - Adele

Is It Cos I'm (Un)Cool?

Last Five: Things I Paid For On iTunes.

And a YouTube vid to demonstrate my level of uncool (just in case it is currently in doubt).

5. Blur - The Best Of Blur

4. Justin Bieber - Believe
There is really no excuse for this.

3. Kelly Clarkson - Stronger

2. Maroon 5 - Overexposed

1. Aiden Grimshaw - Is This Love?

Woah Mona Lisa! Part Two

Just because I am a little bit in love with this song. And the band. Other than that, there is no point to this post other than to say "YIPPEEE! THE NEW PANIC! VID IS HERE!".

Tuesday, 1 February 2011

Woah Mona Lisa!

Panic! At The Disco (yes, the '!' is now back!) have returned from the wilderness with a reduced line-up, but back to the awesomeness of their debut album. I think it's all down to the reinsertion of the punctuation mark that does it. Unfortunately, the official video has yet to be released, but there is a lyric video with a lovely theatrical font to view instead.

I Know I'm Finding It Hard To Breathe

Hurrah! The music video for You Me At Six's song with a rapper called Chiddy (minus his 'Bang') has arrived. Neither of them feature in the video. I do not know if this is down to busy schedules, pure laziness or an artistic decision, but the fangirls of YouTube are not happy about this.

Earthquakes Can't Shake Us, Cyclones Can't Break Us

Watch It!: Charice Feat Iyaz - Pyramid

YouTube music stars a bit one-a-penny these days, but Charice is a bit different to some of the others may you have heard of, such as Esmee Denters and that Bloody Bieber. For example, Charice, or Charmaine Charice Relucio Pempengco as her parents decided to name her, is the first Asian artist EVER to arrive in the Billboard 200 Album Chart (I know they have a lot of charts in the US, but I believe this is a pretty big deal), is set to appear as a recurring character in the second season of Glee, was personally invited by Andrea Bocelli to be a guest at his birthday concert and was described by HRH Oprah Winfrey as the "Most talented girl in the world". She also appears one of the Alvin & The Chipmunks movies, but I hope you won't hold this against her.
Charice might not be yet, but I have a feeling this girl is gonna be a pretty big deal some time soon.
Should you wish to, you can test your knowledge of Charice at http://www.charicemusic.com/triviagame/

Top Five: 30 Seconds To Mars Vids

There are three reasons for this blog.
Reason One: I am a little bit in love with this band and their epic scale videos. They are more than just pictures to accompany a song. They are mini-movies.
Reason Two: I went to see this band last night and they are now fully embedded in my little Emma-sized brain, so I am now trying to set them free.
Reason Three: I have noticed that whenever Jared Leto gets mentioned on this blog, my viewings go up.
Anyway, these are my five favourite 30 Seconds To Mars (or 30stm as I shall now refer to them as) videos so far, even though there are only seven to chose from. This is not necessarily my five favourite songs, just the videos which I think are the best.

5. Kings & Queens
The best bike ride ever. Literally all I have to say.

4. The Kill
Probably the most well-known of all the bands videos, and definitely the one that looks like it has had the most money thrown at it.

3. Capricorn (A Brand New Name)
30stm get down and dirty. I don't really understand this video, not gonna lie, but it looks cool so I like it.

2. A Beautiful Lie
Not many vids can lay claim to having such epic backgrounds as this one (with the exception of Westlife who have shamelessly copied this video), and the sites of Greenland coupled with slow-mo shots is pretty damn cool.

1. From Yesterday
One of my most favourite videos, not just by these chaps. It's dramatic, there is a bit of facial acting, a hell of a lot of flags, fighting and, for the Leto-obsessed amongst us (you know who you are - thanks for checking out the blog btw!), a brief shot of Jared in his topless state. I'll save you from the 11 minute version.

While I'm at it, my top five favourite songs are:
5. Capricorn (A Brand New Name)
4. This Is War
3. A Beautiful Lie
2. The Kill
1. The Fantasy

Music Vids

Craig David - One More Lie
Mr David is back. He keeps disappearing and making comebacks. I do own everything he has released, but I am not sure a comeback is due. He isn't doing anything that no-one else could do. But it's always good to see a familiar face.

Friday Night Boys - Disney Medley
Who doesn't love Disney songs? Who doesn't love sweet, (not so) lil boys singing along while playing the piano? Okay, so this is definitely a girlie video.

Friday Night Boys - Stupid Love Letter
To balance out the girlieness. Or at least make some vague attempt to. Although this video also appears to be a promo for what looks suspiciously like a rom-com. So maybe it fails on that count. The fan girls are brilliant though.

Jason Derulo - In My Head
For some reason, I am highly amused when videos, particularly R&B ones, start off the beginning of a music video by playing music from a completely different song. Promo for two songs in one = genius and very economical.

The Blackout - Children Of The Night
To celebrate the fact I am going to see them tomorrow. Woop Woop!

Music Vids

1. JLS - One Shot
I do like JLS. But not in a fan girl way, I hasten to add. I think I am one of the few people (or should that be females) in this world who would actually rather listen to JLS, instead of seeing them. So if you are like me, you may prefer to press play and then turn away from the screen, so you don't have to look at Aston's smug face.

2. So Solid Crew - They Don't Know
As you may be (but probably aren't) aware, So Solid (minus the Crew) are back. Smaller in number, and a bit pants. So in honour of the days when I liked to think I was hip and happening (the fact I use that phrase means I never was), here is an old school track of theirs. I am going bracket crazy today. I blame the garage. 21 seconds, ta ta ta!

3. Glee - Don't Stop Believing
Not strictly a music video, but I am bit in love with Glee, and it stands a very good chance of charting in the Top Ten this week. Therefore it counts. As I've said before: my blog, my rules.

4. Daisy Dares You - Number One Enemy
I have only just discovered this future tour de force. As in five minutes before writing this post. But I feel compelled to share this song with you all. If you ignore the slightly random and disrupting contribution from Chipmunk, this is a happy slice of pop music. It's a bit like how I imagine Kate Nash would be if she wasn't so bitter. I am far too proud of that piece of 'wit'. I'm not sure thats a good way of selling it though. I take it back.

5. Florence & The Machine - You Got The Love
There is nothing to say other than the fact that this is an incredibly, beautiful song and you should listen to it. And Florence may have the longest legs of anyone I have ever seen.

Music Vids

Only three this week.

1. Gym Class Heroes - Live A Little
A very different GCH song in every way. This is my personal favourite track of theirs, although it is a little random that they have suddenly decided to release it. Not that I am complaining.

2. Nick Jonas - Who I Am
It's probably best I don't say anything at this point.

3. Esmee Denters - Admit It
She is like a youtube fairy tale. Almost has more going for her than is really fair. But I can forgive it. A friend of JT's is a friend of mine.

Music Vids

Sorry for the blogging delay. It's been a bit manic round these parts.
Time for this weeks recommended videos.

1. Timbaland feat SoShy & Nelly Furtado - Morning After Dark
I love Timbaland. I want to give him a great big hug. That is all I have to say.

2. VV Brown - Game Over
Criminally under-rated. Love her sense of style and how happy her music makes me feel. Not exactly a new video, but I am spreading the love.

3. The Saturdays - Ego
A video that looks firmly targetted at the male market, but I hardly doubt most men would need an excuse to check out some Sats action. The girls look awesome as super heroes. Not quite on par with their early stuff, but at least its better than Forever Is Over!

4. Peter Kay's Animated AllStar Band
It's like the best trip down memory lane ever! Okay, so the songs aren't the best, but the video is worth a watch just to look on in awe and wonder how Peter Kay managed to pull it off. Plus its the official Children in Need song, so if you like it and then buy it, everyones a winnner.

5. Paramore - Brick By Boring Brick
One of the more unusual videos around at the mo, but that doesn't take away from its quality. It's a beautiful looking video that just begs to be watched again and again. Plus the song is my current personal favourite off the latest album, Brand New Eyes (this may change though).

Music Vids

This weeks 5 to check out.

1. Demi Lovato - Remember December.
I rather love Miss Lovato. Which has nothing to do with her Disney connections. Promise! I wish I sounded like her when I sang.

2. Britney - 3.
For reasons I am not entirely sure of, I always find Britney's overly sexual songs hilarious. I think it may be to do with the fact they look like desperate cries of attention. Plus, I can also imagine the look on the faces of parents who realise just what their children are listening to.

3. Rihanna - Russian Roulette.
This song is rather awesome, and I was genuinely excited at the prospect of seeing the video. And luckily it doesn't dissapoint. Not the typical lead single off a new album, but that is part of what makes it so special. It is hard to believe that this is the same girl who sang 'Pon De Replay'.

4. Chris Brown - Crawl.
As potentially controversial as Chris Brown appreciation may be these days, his next album may just be the best yet based on what I have already heard. Particularly this one.

5. 30 Seconds To Mars - Kings & Queens.
There is this part of my brain that can not comprehend why 30STM (as all the cool kids refer to them as) are not more popular than they are. But I am not complaining about this. As it means I still get to enjoy their presence in smaller venues. So please, don't check out this video. Especially if you are a tall, selfish person who is likely to stand in front of me and block my view. The less competition the better.

Music Vids

Slightly lazy post, but I highly recommend watching these music videos. They made me very excited. But I am quite easily excitable. I shall list five. Because 5 is the way I do things round here.

1. Panic At The Disco - New Perspective
If you don't like the band, this probably isn't going to win you over. But is a nice medium between the emoness of album one and folky, cheeriness (and not-so-goodness) of album two. Plus I loves Brendon a little bit.

2. Lady Gaga - Bad Romance
Not a massive fan of the song (love the chorus, hate the verses), but the video is fairly epic. Likely to cause bouts of excitement for lovers of fashion, dancing, anime eyes and half naked women. This must cover just about everyone right?

3. Cobra Starship - Hot Mess
The Cobra's would be my guilty pleasure if I actually felt guilty about it. Like the idea of the video and have already played the song to death. There is something exciting about finally seeing a music video to a song you really like.

4. Leighton Meester - Somebody To Love
Ms Meester is one of my two girl crushes, so was therefore bound to love the video. Ridiculously sexy video, but in a classy way. Mostly. Again, not a massive fan of the song, but it is starting to grow on me the more I hear it.

5. 3oh!3 Feat Katy Perry - Starstrukk
Just to even things out, this is girl crush number two (everyone has girl crushes, right?) and I am currently a little obsessed with this song. Until I can afford to have ownership of it, I have just been watching the video online. Good old internet! Unfortunately I can't whistle, so singing along is limited.

I am going to try and remember to recommend videos every Weds/crazy early Thursday morning. If I can organise myself this is.
